Books to Burn

Books to Burn are small batches of limited edition books available in a variety of colors/patterns. Each book is handmade by myself, and will come with a serial number and corresponding 1/1 NFT.

As with its parent series Secret Histories, participants are invited to fill each book with their secrets and burn them. They can then upload a picture or video of their burn to the blockchain to complete their NFT.

Using the Hunter x Hunter model, additional books in different colors/patterns will be released according to different “Seasons” at my whim. The price of the books will increase with each successive season, until they at least reach a threshold of $600/book (their current fair market value price = materials + labor adjusted for inflation) or equivalent $ETH. Participants are invited to collect different books and/or trade/resell them along with their NFTs (each book and corresponding NFT are meant to be owned together).

Book holders will also be invited to the finale of my Secret Histories project, where we will burn 451 little red books filled with secrets.

This work touches upon themes of privacy, censorship, production of knowledge, power, and value. The intention is for the audience to contemplate the value of their secrets and decide whether they are worth protecting or not.

That said, it is up to the buyer to decide what to do with their books. Each buyer is free to sell/resell/burn their book/nft however they wish, or not. This is not a cult, you don’t have to play the game if you don’t want to. For some of you it might be easier to think of these like Pokemon. You can collect them, but it’s up to you to decide what to do with them. Even if they’re made for battle.

The Season 01 release of Books to Burn consists of 7x books available in 4x patterns.
